FAQs & Travel Tips
Are you looking to organize your trip of a lifetime? Learn everything you need to know to start planning your Antarctic fly-cruise expedition with us.
Instead of spending two days sailing across the notoriously rough Drake Passage, our air-cruises let you fly over it in just two hours. From Punta Arenas, Chile, you'll board our chartered aircraft and land at King George Island in Antarctica, where you'll embark your boutique expedition ship.
This innovative approach means you spend more time exploring Antarctica and less time getting there, all while avoiding potential seasickness in the Drake Passage. Plus, with a maximum of 76 guests per voyage, our boutique ships offer a more personalized Antarctic experience.
The Antarctic travel season runs during the austral summer, when temperatures are milder along the Antarctic Peninsula and there are extended hours of daylight. Our Antarctic air-cruises operate from late November through March, each month offering unique highlights: early season reveals pristine snow and courting penguins, mid-season brings long days and peak wildlife activity, while late season offers dramatic sunsets and whale watching opportunities. With changing ice conditions and wildlife patterns throughout the season, every journey to Antarctica is distinctive and rewarding.
Austral summer weather in Antarctica means mostly mild temperatures, averaging around 0°C (32°F), although sometimes it may feel lower because of the wind chill factor. You can expect cold, sunny days and brisk winds, which may turn into stormy weather and even a few snow flurries or snow. You should be prepared for quick changes in weather conditions. Below we offering more packing and travel tips for your expedition with us.
On air-cruises, we welcome children aged 8 and above on its tours, provided they meet all passenger requirements: 1.20 meters (3.9 feet) tall, weighing 30 kilos (66 pounds) or more, and accompanied by a responsible adult who takes full responsibility for the minor and signs a waiver. A 5% discount on the rate per person is offered for children under 12 years.
On sea voyages, we welcome children aged 12 and above. They must be accompanied by a responsible adult who takes full responsibility for the minor and signs a waiver.

Don’t just take our word for it
To say this was the perfect trip would be an understatement. Yes the weather was amazing and the animals showed up, but it was the staff that made it. They cared. A lot. They cared about our experience and they cared about Antarctica and its animals. Pablo, Sofi, Sergie, The Iceman, Tennessee and the rest were all so great. The rooms were perfect and the food amazing. The hotel staff were so friendly, caring, professional and awesome. Also, do the kayaking, it's incredible. 11/10 experience. Thank you A21!

I had high expectations and they blew them away! Absolute phenomenal experience. These are my photos but the pro had amazing photos. All of the staff was so professional. Food was great! Wine was better! And the boat was super clean and well designed. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The best Antarctic experience - fly/explore We went on the Ocean Nova fly/sail expedition. You fly into South Shetland islands avoiding the Drakes Passage. Ocean Nova very functional ship with only 70 passengers which is very important as it means everyone van go on landings and zodiac tours at the same time unlike larger vessels. This is much more important in my view for Antarctica than facilities. The food was very good and the staff superb. Awesome knowledge and capability. We dis the kayak extension which was brilliant. Whales all Around us one day. Highly recommend if you want to experience and do stuff in Antarctica rather than cruise/be stuck on a boat. Tip - book return flight 2 days post expected return. Weather can often delay flights.

Fantastic journey, awesome value! As educators, the price point and the shorter journey length (Antarctica Express Air Cruise) appealed to us (we can't take off multiple weeks in January) but WOW what value--worth EVERY penny and more. Professional, friendly, skilled staff both in travel support and on board the ship, a lovely, comfortable expedition vessel (the Ocean Nova), perfect small size (67 passengers)--and wow what a destination. Yes, there are bigger companies, itineraries, ships, and length of travel--but you won't find a company with more HEART and SKILL for a fantastic voyage. THANK YOU for the journey of a lifetime, Antarctica21!

From the start, Antarctica21 was always available for help. They had given me good insights to take care of the complete itinerary. I would callout Rafael Guzman who went the extra mile in sorting our last minute Visa issues. Overall they ensured a memorable experience and also was very passenger friendly in accommodating adhoc requests. The ship was very clean and the crew members were very cordial and jovial. Antarctica21 is the go to place for a cherishable trip. Hats off and all the best.

A21 truly is an outstanding organization. Every aspect of our Air/Cruise trip on the Magellan Explorer was planned and executed perfectly, which is an amazing accomplishment, given all of the steps that need to be coordinated at all of the contingencies related to weather. Details matter and A21 is a well-oiled machine. A special highlight was the staff, not only of the cruise ship, but on the ground. Everyone seemed genuinely interested in making sure that we had an incredible and personal experience.

As a Chilean and a scientist, I've always dreamed of visiting Antarctica. Crossing Drake was a challenge; I had visited Patagonia up to Pt. Williams. More than 15 years ago, I had organized an astronomy science meeting in Villa Las Estrellas. However, it fell through at the last minute. We were so excited to have the opportunity to visit Antarctica. Now this dream has come true. Antartica21 offered us the most wonderful cruise. We touched the island and the mainland. Now I can say that I've visited all 7 continents, but these are details; what's most remarkable is seeing the land, touching the ice, breathing the Antarctic air and feeling the fauna. The experience was full; the crew, the guides, the lectures, the social atmosphere were remarkable. Thanks Antartica21, keep up the fabulous experience!
