Punta Arenas is the capital of the Magellan Region and Chilean Patagonia. It overlooks the Magellan Strait, at 53°08’ latitude South and 70°55’ latitude West.


How to get there by plane?

A number of European and American airlines land daily at Santiago de Chile airport. Two national airlines connect the capital of Chile with Punta Arenas with several daily flights. The distance is about 3.000 km and a direct flight takes about 3 and half hours.

The Chilean airline LAN offers an interesting “Airpass” for domestic flights connecting with international flights. It can be purchased exclusively out of Chile.

How to get there by land?

The city of Punta Arenas is situated close to the border with Argentina. There are several border crossing to enter Chile from the nearby Argentinean cities of El Calafate, Rio Gallegos, Rio Grande or Ushuaia. Punta Arenas can also be reached from the National Park Torres del Paine (about 5 hours by car) or Puerto Natales (3 hours by car).

Ushuaia is the capital of the southernmost province of Argentina. It lies on Island of Tierra del Fuego, along the shore of the Beagle Channel, at 54°49’ latitude South and 68°13’ latitude West.



How to get there by plane?

A number of European and American airlines land daily at Buenos Aires airport and several daily connections serve Ushuaia. The distance from Buenos Aires is about 3.190 km and a direct flight takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes.

The main Argentinean airline is Aerolineas Argentinas. LAN airline also operates in Argentina.

How to get there by land?

Ushuaia lies at the very end of the National Road n. 3 starting in Buenos Aires. This road links Ushuaia with other cities of Patagonia.
